Espionage During wwII
There were many spies in World War II. Some spies worked for the American government, other spies for the German's and some spies worked for multiple countries. The American spies found a way to "listen in" on the enemy when they thought they had been making plans in secret. Most of the plans were made in codes, however, and needed to be cracked. There are stories that are still being told of German code books that had been captured and codes being broken. The amazing hard won victory at D-Day and in many of the battles with the Japanese after Pearl Harbor were the result of spy efforts to capture and then decode those code books so Americans knew where the enemy would be and what their strategies were to defeat them. Spies had many jobs that they had to do in order to keep ahead of the enemy. The operations worked to damage moral of the soldiers as well as to get information. All of these functions were vital services that our spy network working with intelligence agents of our allies provided which in the end meant victory for the allies against the plans for world domination of our enemies in World War II.
